Why Dental Implants With Us?

Dr. Aaron Strickland offers dental implants at White River Dental in Columbus, IN, because he provides the most stable and durable restoration for patients missing one or more teeth. In addition to providing a strong anchor for a number of restorations, the implants also help to prevent bone atrophy and additional oral health issues. Implant-supported restorations are typically permanent, making them superior to their removable counterparts, such as dentures. With a permanent restoration, you never have to worry that it will slip out of place, and you can enjoy everyday activities like eating and speaking with comfort and confidence.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants offer superior benefits over other restorative options. They are unique in the beneficial effect they have on your oral health. Dental implants act as your natural teeth, which prevents the jawbone atrophy that happens in the absence of teeth. Implant-supported restorations are permanent, making them the most functional and practical restorations available. What Are Dental Impants?

Dental implants are a screw-like post made out of titanium. These posts are embedded into your jawbone, replacing the root of a missing tooth. Over time, these implants will fuse with your jawbone to provides a superior foundation for permanent restorations. An implant is not required to replace each missing tooth. While a single implant is necessary to support a dental crown, six to eight implants can typically support a full denture. A bridge or partial denture requires even fewer.

Who is a Candidate for Dental Implants?

If you are missing one or more teeth, you are a potential candidate for dental implants. Dental implants are also an option for patients who currently have traditional restoration methods such as dentures. If you are not missing any teeth but need to have a tooth or multiple teeth extracted due to damage or decay, we can replace those teeth with implant treatment. Dental implants require ample jawbone tissue for the integration process. If you do not have enough jawbone tissue, we can perform a bone graft or sinus lift procedure to improve your eligibility for implants. Dental implants are recommended for patients who are in good oral and overall health and are either non-smokers or can quit smoking prior to the procedure and during the healing time that follows.

What Can I Expect During the Dental Implant Process?

If you have any underlying oral health conditions, such as gum disease, we will treat those conditions and ensure you have properly healed prior to placing your implants. If you require a bone graft or sinus lift, we will perform those procedures in advance and monitor your healing to determine if you will be eligible for implants. We also perform any tooth extractions in advance as well, allowing time for your gums to heal in between procedures.
We perform all aspects of dental implant surgery in our office, including any preliminary procedures. We can provide you with a combination of oral conscious sedation and nitrous oxide to ensure your comfort and help you remain relaxed. After using precise diagnostic imaging technology to map out the ideal location for your implants, we will create small incisions in those locations. The implants are then inserted into your jaw bone, along with an additive to promote growth. We will place a temporary restoration so that you maintain some functionality during the recovery period. Dental implants take up to six months to fully fuse to your jawbone, a process known as osseointegration. Once this process is complete, we can affix your permanent restoration to your implants.
